Hello Chefs of Blackspire! Welcome to the grand proving of provisions, the siege of spices, the duel of deliciousness! It's time for the Chef of Chefs circuit to begin! The first event will be at the Dusk Hollow KLE, and the theme is "Peasant Food," Hearty dishes made with low budgets! As a reminder, expect low on-site availability for food warming, so bring your own camping stoves and heating implements! DH will have some grill pits I believe, but this should not be expected for each event! For a fun little example of food to try on your own, see the end of this post! The Chef of Chefs Circuit will be judged on a standardized five point system at .25 intervals, with 1 potential point each for:
- Composition, (What ingredients were used? How were they sourced? What flavors are you using, and why?)
- Presentation, (How does it look? Is it a neat, gourmet presentation? Is it served in a nice plate/bowl, etc?)
- Taste, (How good is it? Is it over complicated? Bland?)
- Style, (Did you experiment? Did you add any interesting spices, textures, or flavors?)
- Judge’s Choice: Each judge may award one point per circuit event, leaving the top three dishes as the day’s winners.
Monthly Example Recipe: Cowboy Dinners! My family didn't have a lot after they immigrated here, so my Mom learned to make due with what she had. To this day, this is always something I request when I visit, as it is still one of my favorite dishes ever- it is simple, cheap, and hearty, and now you can try it as well! You don't even need an oven- you can cook this over a fire! You'll need: A pound of ground beef, Seasoning of your choice (I recommend Worchestershire sauce and Johnny's seasoning!), Baby Carrots, Potatoes, and tin foil. Feel free to add extras like Bacon or Onion. Start by preheating the oven to 375 Fahrenheit. Then with the beef, add Seasoning and Worchestershire sauce in short increments as you mix the meat in a bowl. Evenly incorporate, then press meat into equal patties atop a large sheet of tin foil for each. Chop Potatoes into 1/2 inch chunks, then top the meat with them and the carrots. If you are adding bacon or onion, add those before you put the veggies on, directly top the beef. This will add a nice meld of flavor! Then, add a sheet of tin foil atop the assembled dinner, fold the edges to create a seal, then start them on the middle rack of the oven for 1 Hour at 375 Fahrenheit, or until potatoes are tender. Crack the tinfoil open and enjoy with salt and pepper!
